NEW OSCAR WINNERS!
CONGRATULATIONS to the new group of winners! You all had a fantastic day in court!
Let's remember some of the key language we used:
Discussing court cases:
The evidence clearly shows....
I am sure that you will find my client innocent.
The facts of the case are clear.
I'm not certain he's guilty because.....
There should be no doubt in your minds that this man is guilty.
I am confident that you will find the defendant guilty.
You can look at it in two ways.
I will bring witnesses to confirm that....
I believe he's innocent because...
It's clear to me that....
Vocabulary:
EVIDENCE: There is evidence to prove the man guilty.
CASE: The facts of the case are clear.
CHARGE WITH: He is charged with murder.
FRAUD: The fraid was committed when she pretended to the bank she could take the money.
JUVENILE: The juvenile will be let go when he turns 18.
OFFENDER: The offender has a long tradition of anti-social behaviour.
INVESTIGATE: The police will investigate how Sally may have stolen the money.
FALSE PRETENCES: She took the money under false pretences.

MORE GREAT PRESENTATIONS
Everyone has done such a fantastic job with their presentations. It was really great to have you up on stage. I hope next semester we can do something similar. Just remember, that this is a speaking activity so reading word for word does not count!
Unfortunately I do not have photos of everyone because I was either too busy focusing on what you had to say or my phone was full! Apologies to those without one! Ege - Orienteering! Berfin - unusual sports! Fatih A: Humans vs Animals; Gulsum - Famous Peoples Diseases, Merve - Thanksgiving Day; Arda - Chess; and Busra - Dreams
DIDEM: EUTHANASIA ! This is such a difficult topic to discuss - nonetheless it was a job well done! Thankyou
FATIH C: Global Warming!!! The world is in our hands! I hope everyone is doing their part to ensure we do not end up at 6 degrees warmer! Thanks for the videos!
ESER; Online Gaming! We received handouts and watched Eser playing the game! It's great we got to see something he was interested in! I think others might just follow this gaming trend.

I didn't know it was a band haha! :) Well I will post some pics and also links for you to watch! I still feel 'moved' from the speech Steve Jobs gave. Thankyou Burcak and Burak for showing everyone.

Reduced relative clauses refers to the the shortening of a relative clause which modifies the subject of a sentence. Reduced relative clauses can modify the subject NOT the object of a sentence.

In the examples above, who works at Kipa modifies (provides information about) the subject of the sentence 'The man'.

- The man who works at Kipa lives in Ankara.

What do you consider "being late".
Hi All!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a question for you and I was wondering if you could please let me know your ideas. Are you late if you come to an appointment/class if you are 10 minutes late? 1 minute late? 30 minutes late? (for example). I'm interested in your "social time" perspective. Please comment on the survey below :) Thankyou

The Brain
Noun Clauses: As the subject of a sentence
What is a noun clause: A noun clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb; however, it cannot stand alone as a sentence.
Candy is the simple subject in that sentence. İt is one word acting as the subject. Now check this out!
OMG! Now there is a whole clause acting as the subject!
ACTING AS SUBJECTS!!!
Subjects tell us whom or what a sentence is about right? RİGHT?
Candy is fine with me
Candy is the simple subject in that sentence. İt is one word acting as the subject. Now check this out!
OMG! Now there is a whole clause acting as the subject!
- Whatever you want is the noun clause acting as the subject of the sentence.
- We know that whatever you want is the clause because it has a subject (you) and a verb (want).
- We also know that it is the dependent clause because it is an incomplete thought.
